TV HERO
I chose Rudy Guiliani as an American hero for reasons that can be summed up in this photo. Regardless of personal decisions he made before 9/11, he came to the plate and did over and beyond what he had to do. I don’t know how many people would be able to handle that kind of pressure. I remember I was in 8th grade sitting in science class when my teacher told us about the first attack. When I left school early that day, I came home and saw what really happened, and was scared/nervous/panicked/shocked about what I was actually seeing. But, in the time that followed, Rudy Giuliani was there for the people of Manhattan, the people of NY, the people of the Tri-State area, and the people of the United States. It is important to recognize why I differentiated between all of the different parts of the country as well. It was important for Giuliani to do everything he needed to do for the people of Manhattan, but it was also important not to forget that everyone else is also somehow affected. He told the people of NY to have faith in their state, it would take time to rebuild but that it can be done. He addressed the tri-state area not to fear NYC, that we still need to love the big apple, even more now then before. He asked the rest of the country to donate whatever they could, whether they were fireman or police officers or rescue searchers to come and help. If people could gather food for these volunteers and dogs as well, donate blood to the victims. And we answered. Thousands of donations rushed to NYC, people waited for hours in line at blood banks to try and save hundreds of lives waiting for blood in NY hospitals. You may not like who he was before or after, but during that time, you have to respect Rudy Giuliani for being the hero of 9/11.
